Zoom Camera Test
See your video here first. If it works, any camera problem inside Zoom is a Zoom setting, not your hardware. This guide uses our free webcam test.
Press start and allow camera access.
Camera works here but not in Zoom?
- Select the camera. Zoom → Settings → Video → Camera. Pick the same camera that works above. Laptops often list a virtual camera first.
- Click Start Video in the meeting. The camera icon at the bottom left shows a red slash when video is off.
- Close other apps. Only one app can use the camera. Quit Teams, Skype, OBS and any other browser tab using the camera.
- Virtual backgrounds. If you see a black screen after enabling one, switch to None, then turn it on again. Older computers may struggle with it.
- Permissions. Windows: Settings → Privacy & security → Camera. Mac: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and tick Zoom.
- Restart Zoom, then your computer if the camera still does not appear.
Look better on Zoom
Put a light in front of you, not behind. Place the camera at eye level. Turn on HD in Zoom's video settings and tick Touch up my appearance for a softer look.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my Zoom video black?
Another app is using the camera, the wrong camera is selected, or Zoom does not have permission. Fix these in that order.
Does this test send video to Zoom?
No. The video stays on your device and goes nowhere.
