Webcam Test for Mac
Press Start to check the built-in or external camera on your Mac. Use the Mac-specific fixes below if it fails. This guide uses our free webcam test.
Press start and allow camera access.
Fix a Mac camera that is not working
- Allow your browser. System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera. Turn on your browser, then quit and reopen it.
- Look for the green light. A steady green dot next to the camera means it is on. If another app is using it, quit that app.
- iPhone taking over? macOS can pick a nearby iPhone as the camera (Continuity Camera). Choose the Mac's own camera from the dropdown above.
- Try Photo Booth. If Photo Booth shows no picture either, the problem is system-wide, not the website.
- Check Screen Time. System Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy → Allowed Apps must include Camera.
- Restart the Mac. If the camera is still missing, run Apple Diagnostics or contact Apple Support.
