Discord Microphone Test

Confirm your microphone is working with the test, then use the Discord settings below if people still cannot hear you in voice chat. This guide uses our free microphone test.

Press start and allow microphone access, then speak.

Fix Discord mic problems

  1. Pick the input device. User Settings → Voice & Video → Input Device. Choose the mic that worked in the test above.
  2. Use Discord's own check. In the same page press Let's Check, speak, and watch the bar.
  3. Input mode. If you use Push to Talk, make sure you are holding the key. Voice Activity works better for most people.
  4. Automatic sensitivity. If you are cut off while talking, turn off Automatically determine input sensitivity and set the slider just below your normal speaking level.
  5. Noise suppression. Try switching between Krisp, Standard and None. Strong suppression can remove quiet speech.
  6. Windows privacy. Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone must allow desktop apps. On Mac, tick Discord under Privacy & Security → Microphone.
  7. Restart Discord with Ctrl+R (Cmd+R on Mac), or fully quit it from the tray and reopen.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Discord mic green but nobody hears me?

The green ring shows Discord detects sound on the selected input. If others cannot hear you, check that you are not server-muted, and that your Output device and voice channel permissions are correct.

Why does my Discord mic cut out mid-sentence?

Input sensitivity is usually set too high, or noise suppression is too aggressive. Lower the sensitivity threshold or try a lighter suppression setting.
