Mouse Test

LeftMiddleRight

Click, scroll and move your mouse inside this box

Left clicks: 0 · Middle: 0 · Right: 0 · Scroll: - · Position: -

Click once normally to test for accidental double clicks.

Mouse problems and fixes

  • Double-clicking on a single click: the left button switch is wearing out. Replacing the mouse or the micro-switch fixes it.
  • Scroll wheel jumps or goes backwards: clean the wheel sensor with compressed air.
  • Cursor jumps or lags: change surface, clean the sensor lens and replace batteries on wireless mice.
  • Right-click not working: check mouse button settings in your OS.

How this mouse test works

The test box listens for every button press, release and scroll movement your mouse sends to the browser. It lights up the left, middle or right button as you press it, counts each click, shows the scroll direction, and measures the time between clicks on the same button. If two clicks of one button arrive within about 80 milliseconds, the test flags a double-click glitch, because a human cannot click that fast on purpose.

How to check each part

  • Left and right buttons: click each one slowly, one click at a time. The count should go up by exactly one.
  • Middle button: press the scroll wheel in. It should register as Middle, without scrolling the page.
  • Scroll wheel: turn it up and down. Every notch should report the right direction. Jumping or reversing means the wheel sensor is dirty or worn.
  • Pointer: move around the box. The position readout should change smoothly with no jumps.

What this test cannot measure

Browsers do not report your mouse's DPI, polling rate or side buttons, so those cannot be tested online. The test covers the problems that matter most: dead buttons, double clicks and a faulty scroll wheel.

Double-click problem?

If the test reports a glitch, read the full mouse double-click guide for fixes. For a gamepad or controller, use the gamepad test, and to check the rest of your setup see the keyboard test.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my mouse has a double-click problem?

Click once, slowly. If the test reports two clicks within about 80 milliseconds, the switch is bouncing.

Does it detect side buttons?

Not yet. Standard left, middle and right buttons plus the scroll wheel are tested.

Is any data collected?

No. All mouse input stays in your browser.
